Share-the-Road Educational Campaign
On Tuesday, September 25, 2012, the Division of Public Safety held a press conference to spread the word on safe riding practices. DPS co-sponsored this event with the City of Philadelphia, and were joined by Drexel Police, Septa Police, the University City District and .
The purpose of the Share-the-Road Campaign is to provide the bicycle and motorist community information about basic safety practices, and to inform them of City and State laws to allow for a safe riding environment.
The event was also supported by members from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, PennCycle, Neighborhood Bike Works, Keswick Cycle, the UA, GAPSA and MERT, who were on-site to answer questions and provide information to the University City community. Speakers included Chief Dorsey of the University of Pennsylvania Police Department, Sharon McMullen, RN, Director, University of Pennsylvania Campus Health Initiatives, Gene Janda, Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Lieutenant Messner of the University of Pennsylvania Police Department, Charles Carmalt, Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator, Mayor’s Office of Transportation Utilities, and Gus Scheerbaum, Mayor’s Office of Transportation Utilities.
