MLK Symposium Program: Public Safety & Community Partnerships

On February 2nd, DPS partnered with the African-American Resource Center (AARC) to ask the question, “How Can University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Public Safety and University of Pennsylvania’s Community Create Partnerships?”

The African-American Resource Center coordinated an engaging evening of discussion and learning. Collen Winn and Darin Toliver provided a warm welcome, introductions, and context for the evening. Kathleen Shields Anderson, Vice President for Public Safety, opened the discussion by reading a statement written by her and Chief Williams regarding the murder of Tyre Nichols. The panel was moderated by Dr. Valerie Dorsey-Allen, Director, AARC and the panelists for the program included Gary Williams, Chief of Penn Police, Margaret Livingston, President, Walnut Hill Community Association, and Scott Filkin, Director, Office of Social Equity & Community. Codi Smith, Ph.D. Student at the School of Social Policy & Practice, closed the event with an empowering and uplifting statement of affirmation.
